Miyako City, Iwate – 4 months after the tsunami

Last month, my friend Ichi went back to Japan to visit her family. It was her first time home since the Tohoku Earthquake that hit Japan at the start of this year. She also visited and helped with volunteer works at Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture – her grandmother’s hometown. (My grandmother’s hometown is also in Iwate Prefecture).

Here are the photos that she took to document her time there. She wanted to share her experience with as many people as she can, to show that while the community is mostly in good spirits, the heart break and devastation is still being lived every day. Thanks for the photos Ichi!

Miyako was one of the coastal areas that was severely hit by the tsunami.
